Are you too old to go to music festivals?

Music festivals are not for pussys!! It can be physically demanding, but if you love music, then it is a blast! Plus, it is a fun way to see more than one act at a time. Recently, I spent the weekend at a three-day festival called Kaaboo. I am not going to lie, my body hurt a lot during and after the festival.

We loved Kaaboo as it is across the street from our home. It is also one of our favorite festivals because the crowd is a little older. The big bummer is that they are changing the venue for this festival so we probably won’t go anymore. I am going to another festival this weekend (yes I am meshuga) called Life is Beautiful, located in Las Vegas.

There are many festivals around the globe. Whether you go for a full day, two days or three, you must be prepared. I have been going to concerts since I was in middle school and started going to festivals about ten years ago. I have learned a lot throughout the years, and I hope with some of my knowledge, I can turn you into a festival lover!!

Preparing for your festival

Book body appointments

There are a couple of things that I suggest to do to pre-plan before you go to a music festival. Book your masseuse, acupuncture, chiropractor, or whoever you use to realign your body because you will need it post-festival. Go to a stretch or yoga class. Listen to your body; if you have been walking and standing at a festival for three days, you probably need a break.

Download the App

One of the things that I have started to do before I go to a festival is to research the lineup. This does take a lot of time but it is worth it. After all, you are spending a lot of money on this event so make sure you see someone who you think you will like. At some of the festivals, there may also have a comedy line up or a big food venue with top chefs.

Most festivals have their own Apps. These apps include the full lineup which allows you to make your own daily schedule. It tells you which stage the band is playing at and the time. I actually look up each band and select their most popular song. You will be surprised that you will know some of the songs and did not realize who the artist is. Finding new music is fun especially if you find a smaller artist that eventually becomes big! I discovered Dua Lipa when no one had heard of her. Now she is at the top of the charts. For Life is Beautiful, I am looking forward to seeing Billie Eilish, Janelle Monae, and Post Malone.

What to wear?

What you wear to a festival is key and being comfortable is the most important! If the weather is hot, wear something loose, avoid anything skin-tight or you will be miserable. I always wear baggy shorts, skirts or a dress. If you going all day into the night, bring a light sweater, depends on the temperature. This past weekend was very hot and humid, we didn’t need any other layers.

Since you will be on your feet for hours, wear a comfortable shoe with arch supports, NO CONVERSE. Converse are super cute and stylish but they have no support at all. Also, no heels or wedges. It is too easy to trip or fall with these types of shoes. My girlfriend this weekend fell while wearing wedges. I usually wear a high top or some type of short boot. I always wear my Good Feet Orthotics. If you have foot or back pain, you need to get these, they changed my life.

I love to wear hats and will wear one to a festival if it is not too hot. You don’t want to have to carry a hat all day if you’re not going to wear it. Speaking of carrying things, I always wear a crossbody bag. I love to dance and a crossbody is great for moving around. I love my clear crossbody bag (I sell them, email me @ Belinda@rgglv.com if interested), it is great because you go straight through security, no wait time.

Extra notes

Some other important things to do or remember before and during a festival. Wear sunscreen!!! Do I sound like your mother?

Hydrate. If you can, bring your own water bottle to the event. They usually charge an arm and a leg for water, it’s plastic, so why not use your own and save the earth. There are water filling stations at all of the festivals. I wish I would have brought my Hydro flask water bottle last weekend. If there is coconut water for sale, buy it, it is the best way to hydrate.

Lastly, have a blast and dance your ass off!!!
