How to keep your skin looking healthy in the winter months?

Now that we are heading into the cold weather months, it’s time to change your skin routine and be more conscious about what you are putting into your body. Cold air can make your skin feel itchy, dry, and irritated, and indoor heat can suck the moisture out of you. Drinking alcohol (like I am in the photo) is a significant dehydrator. You need to balance your body during the dry months
For myself, I try to eat and drink as many hydrating foods as possible. As far as my skin is concerned, I usually switch from creams to oils or sometimes both. I also make more of a conscious effort to drink a lot more water and coconut water. If you have any good ideas to help during these dry months, send me a message, I would love to know.
Here are the ways I try to keep moisture in and on my body during the winter.

Exfoliate

In the winter, the humidity drops, that is why your skin dries out, and dead skin builds up. You develop almost a mask-like cover on your face, which makes it more difficult for products to absorb. Your skin will also be more susceptible to breakouts., therefore, you must exfoliate regularly during the colder months.
My favorite exfoliant right now is the Sanitas scrub from Alexis K. This scrub exfoliates without irritating and leaves your face feeling smooth like a baby’s butt. I love to use this scrub right before I apply my makeup; it goes on so smooth. Go to my shop to order and use code Belinda20 for a 20% discount.

Serum, Serum and more Serums

Face serum for the winter months is essential in your skin routine, especially during colder months. I use three serums on my face, Radian-C serum, peptide serum, and collagen serum.

Radian-C Serum is a product that has Hyaluronic acid, which is a substance in the skin that draws water to and moisturizes the skin. Radian-C also has ascorbic acid (vitamin c), which is an ingredient that can help incorporate collagen, which is a protein that can reverse the effects of aging on the skin.

Peptide Serum is another serum that will help dry and damaged skin. It also helps with fine lines and wrinkles while retaining its moisture.

Collagen Serum, when applied to the skin, works to fill in fine lines and wrinkles and helps the epidermis keep in moisture. In most cases, the serum acts as a topical treatment that stimulates the production of the protein in the dermis.

I get all my serums from my esthetician, but you can find any of these products online. If you are interested in my particular products, contact me, and I will have some shipped to you.

Food and Drink

While cleaning and keeping your skin fresh and moisturized, it is equally important to keep hydrating with food and drink. Dehydration is much less noticeable in the winter months because you don’t notice how much you sweat as you do in the summer or warmer months.

Here is a list of super-hydrating foods that you can fill up on in the cold months of the year.

  • Coconuts
  • Avocados
  • Citrus fruits
  • Oatmeal
  • Sweet potatoes
  • Salmon
  • Sardines, Herring, Mackerel
  • Shellfish
  • Extra virgin olive oil
  • Flax oil
  • Carrots
  • Dark leafy greens
  • Nuts and Seeds
  • Berries
  • Eggs
  • Tea
  • Tomatoes
  • Soy
  • Collagen powder

Of course, drinking water is always a good idea at any time. Here is a list of other hydrating beverages.

  • Lemon water
  • Milk
  • Coconut water
  • Cucumber water
  • Herbal teas
  • Fruit-infused water
  • Aloe water, Aloe vera juice
  • Chia water

Finally, I believe in humidifiers. Any type of product that helps bring moisture in the air is good for your body. I use a humidifier in my home in the mountains all year long. Also, remember to line your nose with vaseline before bed, I promise your nostrils will love you in the morning.
